Login to your WordPress AWS Lightsail instance

To login to wordpress, you will need the password.  On the main screen, select your wordpress instance (courtesy of bitnami) and you will have the option to click the “Connect using SSH”, do so!

You are now logged into the virtual machine running your wordpress site. Type 'cat bitnami_application_password' to find your password.

Now that we have the password, let us go to our website (same address as in the first article http://mattlumer.com/wordpress-setup-using-aws-lightsail/).  The difference in this case is to login to a wordpress site you need type your website + /wp-admin.  e.g. http://18.209.247.224/wp-admin

The default “Username or Email Address” is user and the password is the one found from the bitnami_application_password file.

Awesome you are logged in! But you want to change your password ASAP!!!

On the left hand side, click on ‘Users’.  You should have only one user as shown below, click on the ‘user’ link in blue.  You can also hover over the ‘user’ link and select ‘Edit’

Scroll to the bottom and click on the ‘Generated Password’ button.  You can either use the auto generated password or you can type in your own.  Lastly, click on the ‘Update User’ button.

Awesome, you are now setup and more secure (assuming a good password).

Optionally, you can now add a user under the ‘Users’ menu and make that user administrator.  In this case you can delete the user ‘user’.  It’s considered safer to make a new administrator since ‘user’ is the default name, so everyone knows the admin login’s username.
